How to stop Microsoft windows 7 auto update feature

Windows Auto-Update is a feature that comes with every version of Microsoft Windows Operating System. This are the patches that are released in the due course of operating system life cycle. This patches are basically the fixes that developers at Microsoft Support center get to know time to time.


Windows 7 also comes with a auto-update feature which help in running your windows operating system smoothly. It is always advised to keep the auto-update on, so that your computer is secure and up to date with the latest bug fixes and any security patches released by Microsoft now and then. But some so the times this i.e auto-update feature can be annoying when Windows repeatedly pop-ups you asking to reboot your computer once the updates are performed. If you want to disable windows automatic updates feature in your windows 7 operating system you can happily do so in some of the steps below.


Step 1: In the search box available when you click on start menu type gpedit.msc and press the Enter. This will open a Local Group Policy Editor windows.

Step 2: Now, in Local Group Policy Editor find Computer configuration which is on the left side of the dialogue box. Click “Administrative Templates” and then click “Windows Components.” Scroll down and select “Windows Update.”


Step 3: The last and final step that is going to do the trick for you is here :: Double-click the option for "No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic update installations." In the Properties window that appears, change the option from "Not Configured" to "Enabled." Click "OK" and close the Local Group Policy Editor window. You will no longer be prompted to restart your computer after Windows installs auto-updates.
