There are many different ways and means of customizing the Windows 7 desktop, both using tools built into the OS itself, and third-party applications to change more setting. But they all seem to make one assumption: that the default location for the Start menu’s button -- the left or top of the Taskbar depending on its position -- is the right one.
If you are bored of look at the same old Windows 7 Start Orb, you can now change it easily. Start Orb Mover comes from the folk at The Windows Club, and is still very much in its early stages of development, despite the 1.0 version number. There are many things to like about it -- small download (1MB) and portability, so there’s no installation or messing about with system files involved.

- Right-click on the "Start" button in an open area on the Windows 7 home screen and click "Properties." The Task bar and Start Menu Properties dialog box appears on the screen.
- Click the "Customize" button in the upper-right corner of the dialog box. The Customize Start Menu dialog box appears on the screen.
- Type the number of programs you want to display into the field to the right of "Number of Recent Programs to Display" at the bottom of the dialog box. Then click OK two times to save your changes and exit the dialog box.
If the Start Button does not get changed, you may have to follow these steps:
- Make sure that the program is closed.
- Manually take ownership of “C:\Windows\explorer.exe” – or you can use our UWT to do so easily.Run the program and select the orb.
